The Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes (CCII), being the supreme body of all Ibadan socio-cultural clubs, was once perceived as a formidable advantage to all Ibadan natives, regardless of their lineage, financial status, or religious affiliations. However, it has regrettably deviated from its noble mission due to the adoption and promotion of a self-serving ‘we-we’ system by some elements within the organization.
It is widely known that any administrative system lacking due diligence is bound to collapse or become irrelevant. Sadly, some self-centered individuals within CCII have been entrusted with key positions, and have subsequently misused their power to advance their personal interests. This has led to a systematic breakdown of due process, resulting in defamation of character, insults, and threats to anyone who opposes their nefarious schemes.
In contrast, a well-coordinated system that upholds justice and due process ensures that all administrative issues are addressed in line with the constitution, and escalated to the Congressmen or General Assembly for consideration. However, the current situation in CCII is characterized by a lack of respect for the rule of law, where individuals with ulterior motives seek to undermine the diligent efforts of others who are committed to promoting the common good.
For example, the President General of CCII, a retired high-ranking officer, has come under attack from these self-serving individuals who seek to exploit the organization for their personal gain. Despite his diligent efforts to promote due process, these individuals are hell-bent on frustrating his administration by spreading falsehoods and promoting chaos.
Furthermore, the Vice President 1, who is constitutionally tasked with supervising projects, shamelessly claims to be unaware of ongoing developments, which suggests a concerted effort to undermine the success of the administration. Many of these individuals entered CCII with the sole intention of milking the organization for their own selfish gain.
The immediate Chairman of Ibadan Cultural Festival week, Balogun Gafar Ojetola, is another example of the egregious behavior that has become prevalent within CCII. He once locked down the President General and some Excos, simply because the PG insisted on following due process in approving a financial memo raised by him. Similarly, Mr. Nurudeen Akinade’s student union inherited attitude, whereby he demands the sacking of a staff member who dared to stand for due process and deny him the right to occupy Bode Amao Hall, is equally unacceptable.
It is incumbent upon all well-meaning Ibadan natives to rise up against this ‘we-we’ system being promoted by these unscrupulous elements. Failure to do so could result in irreparable damage to CCII’s reputation, and a possible future attack on the high chiefs, Olubadan of Ibadanland, and even the Governor, by these individuals who prioritize their interests above the common good.
Therefore, we must all strive to promote a system of due process that upholds the integrity of CCII, and the greater good of Ibadanland. It is our collective responsibility to reject the chaotic approach of these self-serving individuals and stand up for justice, accountability, and transparency in all administrative dealings. Let us remember that our actions today will shape the history of tomorrow, and let us work towards leaving a positive legacy for generations to come.
