The Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Oyo State Governor on Students’ Affairs, Hon. Victor Olojede Dideoluwa, has inaugurated the National Inauguration Committee of the Federation of Oyo State Students’ Union (FOSSU National), in preparation for the transition from the outgoing national leadership to the newly elected executives.
The inauguration ceremony held on Wednesday at the office of the SSA within the Ministry of Education, Oyo State Secretariat Complex, Agodi, Ibadan.
The move, according to the SSA, is aimed at ensuring a smooth, well-coordinated and befitting transition process that will properly honour the outgoing leadership while ushering in the new executives of the indigenous students’ union.
The committee’s inauguration followed an official request from the incoming FOSSU National leadership, led by the National President-Elect, Hon. Comrade Ààre Mufutau Ahmed Ademola, who submitted names of experienced and competent individuals drawn from the five zones of Oyo State for consideration and approval.
A nine-member committee was subsequently approved and inaugurated, with Ààre Ogunola Sodiq Olayemi appointed as Chairman. Comrade Jamiu Lukman Asiri and Comrade Akanni Muhammed were named Co-Chairmen, while Sen. Ààre (Amb.) ISHAK Yusuf Oyetunji (Sagacity), Oke-Ogun Zone National President, was appointed Secretary. Ààre Yusuff Ridwan Folarin, Oyo Zone National President, will serve as Public Relations Officer.
Other members of the committee include the FOSSU National President-Elect, Comrade Mufutau Ahmed A.; Ààre Giwa Kamorudeen, Ibadan Zone National President; Ààre Alaja Joseph Oluwafemi, Ogbomoso Zone National President; and Ààre Abass Adesola Olaniyan, Ibarapa Zone National President.
Addressing the committee, Hon. Olojede charged members to work efficiently and collaboratively to deliver what he described as an outstanding and unprecedented inauguration ceremony. He stressed the need for a structured, week-long programme that would reflect the values, unity and aspirations of indigenous Oyo State students.
Proposed activities for the inauguration include a novelty football match between FOSSU National and its zonal bodies, visits to orphanage homes, the official inauguration ceremony, and a Dinner and Awards Night. The SSA further directed that sub-committees be set up for each activity, drawing members from across the five zones of the state.
He also instructed the committee to commence work immediately and to liaise closely with all sub-committees to ensure timely and successful execution of all activities.
In their responses, members of the committee expressed appreciation for the confidence reposed in them and pledged total commitment to delivering a memorable inauguration. The committee also called on all indigenous Oyo State students to remain expectant as preparations advance towards the fulfillment of its constitutional responsibilities.
