The governorship candidate of Accord in Oyo State, Chief Adebayo Adelabu has called on electorate in the State to keep calm as there is nothing to worry about adding that Accord will win the March 11 governorship election.
Adelabu spoke on Monday while reacting to the outcome of last Saturday’s presidential and National Assembly elections.
According to Adelabu, the people of Oyo State have always known what they want and have always gone for it. This has manifested in past elections.
Going down memory, Adelabu who expressed optimism about the coming governorship election said in 2011, “Oyo State witnessed a battle between incumbent late Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala and late Senator Abiola Ajimobi who was contesting on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria ( ACN). Ajimobi’s party was able to pick two Senatorial seats and Six House of Representatives seats, Accord which was being promoted by former Governor Rasheed Ladoja had four Reps seats while the Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP) of Governor Akala had five Reps seats. That election was won by Ajimobi against all the odds.
“In 2015, a different scenario played out. President Mohammadu Buhari was the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC). In Oyo State, all the parties came together under Ladoja to work against the second term bid of Ajimobi, in spite of that, Ajimobi still won though Accord had about seven House of Assembly seats”, he said.
Adelabu said the electorate should remain strong in their avowed desire for good governance that he would provide Oyo State. “ We are resolute in our desire to provide leadership and good governance in the State, you have all assessed the other contenders. Governor Seyi Makinde of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP)has failed to provide the desired governance that is befitting a pacesetter State like ours. Insecurity is now rampant with many unresolved killings. Thuggery which Ajimobi had eradicated is now coming back into the politics of Oyo State, Ibadan is gradually returning to the status of the dirtiest State capital in the Country. As for Teslim Folarin of APC, we all know his antecedent, as a Senator, we cannot point to a major project he has brought inyo Oyo State. During the Covid-19 saga, he was even hoarding the palliatives meant for the people. So we know they can not offer the desired good governance we want for Oyo State as a pacesetter, we will provide this and also turn around the good fortune of the State, he said.
The Accord Governorship candidate said they should not see the outcome of last Saturday’s election as a setback but as an impetus to work harder and ensure victory for Accord. “What we witnessed on Saturday is not a true reflection of the acceptability and strength of Accord in Oyo State. We know the people will vote Accord on March 11.”
He therefore urged the people to come out enmasse to vote Accord on March 11.
