Police Arrest Oyo PDP Councillor Over Theft, Unlawful Possession of Firearms

The Oyo State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) has arrested one Hon. Ojo Yekini Sulaimon, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Ward 2 Councillor of Ido Local Government Area in Oyo State over an alleged burgling of the Local Government Chairman’s office and unlawful possession of firearms.

Yinka, who hails from Akufo, Ido local government on Thursday, 25th August 2022 led some of his colleagues into the suspended council chairman’s office where they carted away valuable items and documents, BOWA Media reports.

OYOMIND recalls that the Ido Local Government Chairman, Hon Sheriff Adeojo was suspended by the councillors few weeks ago over his unaccountability and low standard of projects across the wards in the council.

A local government worker who pleaded anonymity confirmed that the theft incident was detected by the acting chairman, Bar. Sakariyau Faosla upon his resumption into office on Thursday reported to the Head of Local Government (HLA) of the council, Mrs. Ojo.

The HLA was said to have summoned all the Adhoc staff working at the council chairman’s office to investigate the theft incidence where a laptop and some official files missing, but later handed them to state SCID when none of them was able to give a good explanation about the illegal entrance to the chairman’s office.

According to the source, the SCID upon their investigation revealed that one of the Chairman’s office Adhoc staff, Bisi revealed how she released the office key to Hon. Ojo Yekini Sulaimon and his other councilors due to the threat to her life.

Hon. Ojo Yekini Sulaimon has since then been arrested for interrogation which also led them to his residence where four guns and local security gadgets were discovered.

As of writing this report, the Leader of the House in Ido local government, was not reachable as both his lines were switched off.
