Amid escalating tensions within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the Governor of Adamawa State, Rt. Hon. Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri, has publicly distanced himself from the controversial expulsion of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and other prominent party members.
In a statement issued on Saturday, Fintiri declared that he “dissociates” himself from the position supporting Wike’s removal from the party, insisting that the action does not serve the long-term interests of the PDP.
“I believe that this decision is not in the best interest of the party, and I will not be part of any attempt that could further plunge the PDP into unending crisis,” the governor stated.
Fintiri emphasized that as a committed party member, his focus remains on peace, reconciliation, and the stability of the PDP. He warned that expulsions and punitive actions at a time of legal battles and internal fragmentation would only worsen the already fragile unity within the opposition party.
“My position is clear: I stand for the peace and stability of the PDP, and I will not support anything that could lead to its disintegration,” he said.
The governor called on stakeholders to prioritize healing, dialogue, and genuine reconciliation as the party navigates one of its most turbulent periods. According to him, unity and cohesion are essential if the PDP hopes to reposition itself for future political contests.
Fintiri reiterated that his stance is motivated by the need for long-term harmony, stressing his commitment to supporting all efforts that promote peace, stability, and progress within the party.
His intervention comes amid a factional convention in Ibadan, where the expulsion of Wike, Ayodele Fayose, Senator Samuel Anyanwu, and others was announced, an action that has further widened the cracks within the PDP’s national leadership.
