In futherance to the seven days of National mourning declared by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR, the Federal Government has declared Tuesday, 15 July, 2025, as a Public Holiday in honour of the late former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR.

The Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, made the declaration on behalf of the Federal Government, following the approval of His Excellency, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.

The Minister stated that the holiday is a mark of respect for the late President’s service to the nation, his contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey, and his enduring legacy in governance and national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the Minister said.

He urged citizens to use the day to honour the late President’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion, in line with his vision for a prosperous and united Nigeria.

As earlier announced, the National flags are to fly at half mast for the seven days of mourning period from Sunday 13th July, 2025.

The Federal Government extends its deepest condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, while praying for the peaceful repose of his soul.

A group of FAAN concessionaires along Airport Road in Ibadan have staged a peaceful protest over the ongoing perimeter fencing project linked to the upgrade of the Ibadan airport to international status.

The demonstrators carried placards with messages such as “OUR GOVERNOR PLEASE DON’T NAKED US” and “OUR GOVERNOR YOU ARE OUR LAST HOPE,” urging Governor Seyi Makinde to intervene.

Speaking on behalf of the concessionaires, Alhaji Tirimisiyu Banji expressed deep concerns about the potential impact of the fence on private investments in the area.

He noted that several ongoing developments, valued in billions of naira, could be adversely affected by the current design of the fencing project.

According to him, previous engagements with the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) had suggested that the fence would consist of two to three blocks topped with wire mesh, allowing visibility and continued access to the properties.

However, the concessionaires now fear that the construction may completely obstruct access and visibility to their farms and facilities.

Another protester, Mr. Alabi Oluseye, acknowledged the infrastructural progress under Governor Makinde’s administration but called for improved communication with affected stakeholders.

He emphasized the need for a solution that protects both public infrastructure and private investments.

The gubernatorial ambition of Amofin Beulah Adeoye ahead of 2027 has been reactivated in Ona-Ara LGA following the visitation of his political aides to the council.

Amofin Adeoye’s political aides were led by Hon. Aransi Wasiu for a strategic meeting on how to reactivate the political structure of the legal icon and reaffirm his commitment to 2027 gubernatorial ambition.

Hon. Aransi delivered a goodwill message on behalf of Amofin Beulah Adeoye at the meeting and assured all stakeholders that the legal icon is committed and sincere with his ambition. He called on all to keep the trust alive and feel free to add their voices when needed.

Amofin Beulah Adeoye Coordinator in the LG, Hon. Oyewole Abokorere and other stakeholders across the 11 wards were in attendance. The political aides of Amofin Beulah Adeoye cut across the three Oyo Senatorial Districts; Hon. Ayinde Riliwan Asukuna (Oyo South), Hon. Asimiyu Abiodun Apostle (Oyo Central) and Hon. Anibire (Oyo North).

Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde has approved the sum of ₦7,763,360,000 to purchase two aircraft for the purpose of tackling kidnapping and illegal mining operations across the state.

Commissioner for Information in the state, Prince Dotun Oyelade defended the purchase of two aircraft to fight insecurity in the state.

Oyelade disclosed that with the purchase of the aircraft, security would be immediately beefed up to curb the menace of illegal miners, kidnappers and other forms of security threats, particularly in the vast interland.

Oyelade, in a statement after the Wednesday State Executive Council meeting, said the procurement was approved in a renewed determination of government to secure the state further from the influx of bandits and their activities.

According to him, the Council noted that although Oyo State enjoys relative peace compared to other states in the federation, the government would not be complacent in view of pockets of kidnappings and banditry going on in parts of the state.

“The two light aircraft, DA 42 MNG model, are Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance (ISR) aircraft, with sophisticated surveillance gadgets capable of identifying targets from high and low altitudes”, the Commissioner said.

He said the preference for these aircraft instead of helicopters was informed by their lesser cost of maintenance, adding that their spare parts are accessible.

He also noted that the Nigeria Air Force possesses a number of the model, which gives room for synergy.

Oyelade added that the state has the largest land mass in the southern part of Nigeria and bigger than 10 countries in Africa with a landmass of 28,454 square kilometres.

“The two aircraft will cost ₦7,763,360,000 and will effectively back up Amotekun and other security forces in the State to prevent and destroy bandits in their hideouts,” he said.

Oyelade also disclosed that of all the South West Security Networks, Amotekun in Oyo State has the highest number of personnel with 2,500, 181 vehicles, and 450 motorcycles.

The Commissioner also stressed that Amotekun personnel in the state were the highest paid in the South-West with the least paid ₦116,000 salary per month.

Speaking further on the outcome of the meeting, Oyelade said the Council also approved the construction of bridges, interchanges and the clearance of the North-East and South-West segments of the 110km Rashidi Ladoja Circular Road project, particularly from the Molarere, Odo-Oba, Abiola Ajimobi Technical University axis at ₦83,037,000,000.

He said Council assured that 72km of the Circular Road would be completed at the end of this administration in 2027.

The council also approved asphaltic improvement of the Secretariat Road, Trans Amusement UI – Sango Road and the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium Road at ₦2,327, 072,134.68, while the reconstruction of Mobil – Oluyole Industrial Estate Road network will be completed with ₦6,801,000,000.

Oyo State government also approved the commencement of direct intervention in operations and maintenance of the Light-up Oyo Solar Project with ₦595,000,000, while ₦190,000,000 would be paid monthly for the operations and maintenance of the project.

The Bada Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, has described the death of the late Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Dr Owolabi Akinloye Ige-Olakulehin I, as a rude shock.

Oloye expressed shock at the sudden demise of the late Ibadan’s Imperial Majesty, which occurred at the early hours of Monday, 8th July, 2025.

In his words, the National President of Ibadan Descendants Union, USA stated thus: “The death of our revered Olubadan was unexpected at this time when Ibadan had begun to enjoy his sagely wisdom, and his reign bringing peace and tranquility to Ibadanland.” Oloye Iyiola said that the though Oba Akinloye Owolabi died at a ripe age of 90, it’s painful that we lost him two days after his 90th birth anniversary and five days to his first anniversary on the throne as Olubadan of Ibadanland.

It would be recalled that Oba Dr Akinloye Owolabi Ige-Olakulehin I was crowned the 43rd Olubadan of Ibadanland on July 12, 2024 after the demise of the 42nd Olubadan, Oba Senator Mohood Lekan Balogun.

“On behalf of Anlamole Dynasty and Ibadan Descendants Union, USA, which I lead, I commiserate with Princess Oluwatoyin, Bar Olasumbo, Prince Fola, Prince Adegboyega, Prince Adekunle, and other siblings on the shocking demise of our father. I also condole with the entire people of Ibadanland and, especially, the Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde, on the unfortunate passing of our monarch.”

Oloye Abiola Iyiola, therefore, prayed for the repose of the soul of the late Olubadan whom he described as an impactful traditional leader.
