Tinubu Aligns With Oyo Gaming Board DG, Boladuro on Gaming and Lottery Regulations

President Bola Tinubu has aligned with the Director-General of the Oyo State Gaming and Lottery Board, Mr Olajide Boladuro, on the regulation of gaming and lottery activities in Nigeria, reaffirming that the matter falls within the constitutional jurisdiction of state governments.

The President made this position clear while addressing members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the party’s National Executive Committee meeting held in Abuja on Friday.

He stated unequivocally that he would not assent to any bill seeking to centralise lottery and gaming regulation, describing such efforts as unconstitutional and contrary to an existing Supreme Court judgment.

President Tinubu emphasised that he is a constitutional democrat and would respect the division of legislative powers as outlined in the Constitution.

He explained that gaming and lottery regulation is a residual matter, which places it under the authority of state governments rather than the Federal Government.

“I want to commend the National Assembly for their efforts to amend the constitution to accommodate women; we are in full support of that. But what I want you to forget is centralised lotto. Go and read the constitution very well; it is a residual matter.”

“Where my exclusive legislative capacity as President starts and ends, residual matters belong to the exclusive legislature of the states. Don’t tread near it; I am a constitutional democrat.”

“A lottery, lotto, lotto law, or bill coming from the National Assembly to centralise lotto, I will not sign it.”

The President’s stance mirrored the position earlier articulated by Mr Boladuro, who appeared on Arise TV on Thursday to clarify the legal framework governing gaming and lottery operations in the country.

During the interview, Boladuro appealed to President Tinubu to uphold the Supreme Court’s judgment on gaming and lottery regulation.

He argued that the emergence of online and digital lottery platforms does not alter regulatory jurisdiction.

According to him, regulation is determined by law and subject matter, not by the technology through which gaming activities are conducted, maintaining that digital platforms merely serve as channels and do not confer federal regulatory authority.

He further alleged that proponents of federal control over gaming were attempting to undermine the Supreme Court ruling by pushing a centralised gaming bill through the National Assembly for personal gain.

“This matter has been lingering for a long time; it started as far back as 2008. Online does not change jurisdiction. Regulations are determined by residual law and subject matter, not by technology, which is the argument of those pushing the central gaming bill,” Boladuro said.

Meanwhile, with President Tinubu’s latest remarks, the Federal Government has once again affirmed its commitment to constitutional provisions and judicial pronouncements, reinforcing the position that gaming and lottery regulation remains the responsibility of state governments.

Amid the controversy trailing the treatment of Hon. Saheed Akinade Fijabi at the Oyo APC Youth Summit, a member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Remi Oseni, representing Ido/Ibarapa Federal Constituency, has described the action taken by the party’s youth wing as expected, citing concerns over party loyalty.

Speaking with journalists, Oseni acknowledged that while forgiveness remains important, party discipline and loyalty must also be upheld.

“He can be forgiven, because there is nowhere in the Bible that says anyone should not be forgiven. He can be absorbed back into the party, but that will dampen the morale of those who stayed loyal. That is where he serves his punishment for indiscipline,” Oseni said.

Reacting to the manner in which Fijabi was addressed at the youth summit, the lawmaker dismissed criticisms, stating that the response of the youths reflected their commitment to the party.

“They are youths; they will grow out of it. The way they responded at that time was important and expected. He is not honest to the party,” Oseni added.

Oseni further called for unity and discipline within the All Progressives Congress (APC), particularly among its younger members, warning that internal divisions could weaken the party’s position ahead of future elections.

Former House of Representatives member and Chairman of the Oyo @ 50 Planning Committee, Honourable Saheed Akinade Fijabi, has reacted to the incident that occurred at the Oyo APC Youth Summit held in Ibadan on Tuesday, December 17, 2025, where he was booed by party youths.

In a statement issued after the event, Fijabi clarified that he was formally invited by the planning committee of the APC Youth Summit to attend the programme as a panelist.

According to him, the organisers also appealed to him for financial support towards the success of the summit, a request he honoured by making a contribution on Monday, December 15, 2025, at about 2:00 pm (WAT).

Fijabi disclosed that following the receipt of his financial contribution, the planning committee went ahead to design and circulate a flyer bearing his image, further encouraging him to attend the summit.

He, however, described it as regrettable and dishonourable that despite their repeated persuasion and acceptance of his contribution, the same APC youths and organisers allegedly unfolded a different plan at the venue of the event.

“This is not honourable and reflects extremely low values,” the former lawmaker stated.

Despite the incident, Fijabi said he harbours no grudge or ill feelings against anyone involved, stressing that his commitment to the development of Oyo State remains unwavering.

“As a leader, I will continue to support and provide leadership towards the growth of Oyo State. The development of the state is my primary motivation, and I remain undeterred,” he said.

Fijabi reaffirmed his resolve to serve Oyo State with integrity, adding that he would continue to pursue his vision for the state through honourable platforms that are receptive to his ideas.

BREAKING: Commercial Flights to Resume at Ibadan Airport

The Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has approved the commencement of scheduled commercial flight operations at the Samuel Ladoke Akintola Airport, Ibadan.

The approval was conveyed in a letter dated December 16, 2025, addressed to the Managing Director of the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN). The NCAA granted a provisional interim operational permit, clearing the airport for scheduled flight services.

The decision followed the completion of key upgrade works by the Oyo State Government as part of efforts to transform the facility into an international airport. The projects include the extension and widening of the runway, improved airfield lighting, construction of a 500,000-litre aviation fuel storage facility, and a new Protocol Lounge, among other infrastructure improvements.

According to the NCAA, the approval was granted after a review of updated safety-critical facilities, operational arrangements, and mitigation measures at the airport, based on recent developments and additional information provided by FAAN. The authority noted that it had earlier approved non-scheduled flight operations at the airport.

The NCAA stated that the provisional interim permit is subject to strict compliance with stipulated conditions, including the full operationalisation of emergency response arrangements, in line with the provisions of the Nigerian Civil Aviation Regulations.

The Oyo State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has underscored the importance of unity and strategic organisation as vital pillars for electoral success, following a highly attended Youth Summit held on Wednesday at the Ibadan Civic Centre, Agodi.

The summit, themed “Oyo State APC Today and Tomorrow,” was organised by the party’s Youth Wing and drew party leaders, youth stakeholders, and grassroots mobilisers from across the state. It was convened as part of a deliberate effort to address internal challenges and reposition the party ahead of future electoral contests.

Delivering the keynote address, Senator Tokunbo Afikuyomi stressed that unity remains the foundation of any successful political movement, warning that unresolved internal divisions could weaken the party’s prospects. He urged young party members to rise above factional interests, embrace dialogue, and actively promote reconciliation within the APC.

“The future of the party in Oyo State largely depends on the ability of its youths to organise effectively, mobilise at the grassroots, and project a clear, collective vision,” Afikuyomi stated.

Discussions at the summit focused on party repositioning, internal cohesion, strategic engagement, and strengthened grassroots penetration ahead of upcoming elections.

Speaking on behalf of the Youth Wing, Hon. John Oyetunji Aremu, Oyo State APC Youth Leader, said the summit was “not just another meeting, but a purposeful call to reflection, responsibility, and renewed commitment to the future of our party. The youths are the strength of today and the custodians of tomorrow, and no party can grow beyond the space it creates for its youths to contribute, innovate, and lead.”

Aremu called on the party to continue empowering its young members, noting that their energy, creativity, and loyalty are essential for building a stronger and more united APC.

He urged all elected officers and appointees to demonstrate long-term commitment to the party, stressing that leadership must be grounded in service, integrity, and accountability.

“As we look ahead to 2027, we must speak with courage and unity. Religion must not be a barrier, zones must not divide us, and sentiments must not weaken our cause. Oyo State needs a governorship candidate who listens, understands the pains of the people, and is committed to the collective interest of the state and the party,” Aremu said.

Speakers at the summit consistently emphasised discipline, unity of purpose, and commitment to progressive values as critical to driving the party forward.
At the conclusion of the summit, participants pledged to work together to rebuild and strengthen the APC in Oyo State, reaffirming loyalty to the party and a renewed commitment to unity.

Fijabi was reportedly asked to leave the venue by organisers and participants of the summit after his presence sparked discontent among party youths, who cited his recent public remarks as being inconsistent with the objectives of the gathering, which centred on unity, loyalty, and party rebuilding.

The former lawmaker had, during the kick-off and logo launch of the Oyo @ 50 celebrations, openly stated his willingness to defect from the APC to the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
