The Oyo State Police Command has debunked the rumour of the purported shooting incident at Old Oyo National Park.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Oyo State Police Command, SP Osifeso Adewale.
According to Osifeso, the gun shots was as a result of the engagement between the local vigilante groups and the alleged abductors at the aforementioned area.
“The Oyo State Police Command wishes to refute rumors and misleading information making the rounds particularly on the social media about an alleged killing incident by marauding hoodlums alleged to be armed bandits along the Old Oyo National Park axis with Saki East Local Government Area.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that some local vigilante groups around the aforementioned location,while in pursuit of alleged abductors engaged the latter in a gun duel which led to the injury of three (3) vigilante members who were part of the team.
“Consequent on the above, it is important to note that no live was lost and the injured are presently responding to the medical intervention availed to them at the hospital.
“Furthermore, there has been an increase in the level of deployment of Police operational and tactical assets with other relevant security services in a bid to forestall any untoward occurrence(s) within the area and it’s environs.
“While urging all law abiding residents to go about their lawful business(es) without any fear or hindrance as the Police and other security agencies remain firmly on top of the situation, members of public are encouraged to provide credible and timely information to the Police and other law enforcement agencies at all times to help nip crime in the bud.
