The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has announced significant achievements in revenue generation and anti-smuggling operations. Speaking at a media briefing at the Command’s Operational Headquarters in Ibadan, Customs Area Controller Dr. Ben Oramalugo highlighted the Command’s accomplishments from April 17 to June 13, 2024.

Despite economic challenges, the Command generated ₦6.34 billion in May 2024 alone. The total revenue from January to May 2024 stands at ₦30.66 billion, a 5.2% increase compared to the same period in 2023. This growth is attributed to improved compliance and the integration of advanced technology under the Nigeria Customs Service Modernization Project.

Dr. Oramalugo also reported robust anti-smuggling efforts, resulting in notable seizures including 504 wraps of Cannabis Sativa, 600 bags of foreign parboiled rice, 6,850 litres of petroleum motor spirit, 123 used tyres, a used Mercedes truck, and a used Nissan Caravan. The total duty paid value of these seizures amounts to ₦129.85 million.

The Command plans to hand over seized cannabis worth ₦21.13 million to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) and auction the petroleum motor spirit due to its inflammable nature.

Expressing gratitude to the Comptroller General of Customs, BA Adeniyi, and other stakeholders, Dr. Oramalugo emphasized the Command’s commitment to combating smuggling and enhancing national security, economic stability, and public health.
