Barely forty-eight hours after a flood incident at Onipepeye area, the Caretaker Chairman of Ibadan North East Local Government, Hon. Ibrahim Akintayo has swung into action with the second phase of excavation at Onipepeye river to forestall future occurrence of flood disaster.
The Ibadan North East Boss had earlier initiated the first phase of excavation right from Balloon building up to the newly constructed bridge at Onipepeye flowing of the water.
The flood which happened as a result of the narrow passage at the express end of the bridge by the river, could not withstand the velocity of the erosion and found its way back to the road thereby preventing motorists and pedestrians from crossing the road.
Hon. Akintayo while addressing the people of the area during inspection said that the federal government intervention was needed to double the bridge which passed through the express as the local government had done its best to expand the river channel but the bridge beneath the express is too small for the passage of the river.
The Chairman, therefore, assured the people of the area that work had started in earnest for the second phase of the excavation which begins from where the first phase ended up to the bridge beneath expressway.
