In a bid to eradicate the excessive abuse of drugs in the community, the Oje Youth Forum (OYF) met with the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) management in Ibadan, Oyo State capital.
OYF’s objective is to create an environment where young people can thrive, individual’s dream come to reality, and elders are honored.
According to the forum, “Drug abuse has been a major challenge in Oje community, causing harm and death to many young people, and also leading to mental health problems. So, it is important to find a lasting solution to it.”
The forum requested to partner the agency in the aspect of awareness and sensitization campaigns, and rehabilitation of young people with mental illness due to drug abuse.
The management of NDLEA, represented by the Deputy Commander Oyo State chapter, (DCN) Suleiman Badmus and Staff Officer, Drug Demand Reduction Unit, (SN) O.A. Achichi appreciated OYF efforts to develop the community and pledged their full support.
They acknowledged the excessive abuse of drug challenges facing youths and assured OYF of their commitment to addressing drug abuse in ancient communities like Oje.
The management urged the forum to commence orientation and sensitization for young people in the community on why they should not engage in drugs.
