A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and public affairs analyst, Akin Akinwale, has described popular Ibadan based broadcaster, Oriyomi Hamzat, as lacking the temperament and maturity required for leadership.

Akinwale made the statement on Monday via his verified X handle, following a viral video of Hamzat’s angry reaction to a caller during a live radio programme.

“Oriyomi Hamzat’s arrogant outburst on live radio, simply because a caller offered a polite opinion, is proof that he lacks the temperament and maturity required for leadership,” Akinwale wrote.

“Anyone who cannot handle constructive criticism without resorting to chest-thumping and ego driven declarations has no business near the seat of power. Governance is not for noisemakers with a messiah complex. It is for calm, sound, and thoughtful minds, not for those who mistake popularity for capacity,” he added.

The backlash followed a live broadcast on Agidigbo 88.7 FM, where Oriyomi engaged in a heated exchange with a diaspora caller. The caller had advised the broadcaster to focus on his media and advocacy work rather than nursing any political ambition, warning that popularity might not translate into electoral victory.

However, Oriyomi rejected the advice angrily, declaring that he would contest and win if he chooses to run. His reaction, which many listeners considered combative and unnecessary, has now drawn widespread criticism across social media platforms.

The incident has further intensified public scrutiny over the broadcaster’s conduct, especially as speculations mount regarding his rumoured interest in the 2027 Oyo State governorship election.
