The Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde has boasted that no political party that can stop him from getting re-elected in 2023.
Governor Makinde stated this on Wednesday at the kick-off of the second phase of the Light-Up Oyo Project, in Ogbomoso town.
He explained that even though it is too early for him to start talking about a second term or re-election bid, he is certain that the state won’t fall into the hand charlatans anymore.
“Let me sound this: if I will not seek re-election, I am sure that Oyo State will never, again, be in the hands of charlatans. So, calm down. It is even too early to start talking about a second term. Some parties that do not have even one councilor are saying that they will send me out of the Government House in 2023,” the governor said.
Speaking further, he also wondered why the same opposition politicians who were rejected by the people of the state during the last general elections have started talking about 2023 noting that they have nothing to offer.
We understand that the claim by the governor that parties without at least a councilor are targeted at all opposition parties in the state except the All Progressives Congress that have elected representatives at the National and state assemblies.
Foremost among the opposition parties that occupy no elected political seat are African Democratic Congress, (ADC), and Zenith Labour Party, (ZLP).
Notably, the gubernatorial candidate of these two parties stepped down their gubernatorial ambition to ensure the emergence of the governor.
The political assurance by the governor was made barely 24 hours after the Zenith Labour Party led by former governor Rashidi Ladoja vowed to send him packing from the Agodi government house in 2023.
