The Jagun Olubadan of Ibadanland and National President, Ibadan Descendants’ Union, North America, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, has emphasised that the victory of the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde, at the just concluded governorship election is a wake-up call to politicians in the state.
In a statement released by the Public Relations Officer of IDU-USA, Mr Shola Bolomope and signed by Oloye Iyiola, the socio-cultural group of all Sons and Daughters of Ibadan in the United States rejoiced with Engineer Seyi Makinde on his epoch victory at the governorship polls, stating that his victory at the polls is a testimony of his people-oriented programs and policies aimed at engendering rapid developments in the state.
In the words of the National President of IDU-USA, “It’s a new era in the history of Oyo State and Ibadan. This is the second time a prominent Ibadan son would serve two tenures as governor of the state. We heartily congratulate our Brother, Governor Seyi Makinde, on the success of the recently conducted election which earned His Excellency a deserved victory. We give huge kudos to the good people of Oyo State for ensuring that the election was rancour-free, non violent and without bloodletting as had been predicted before the election. It is heartwarming to realise that the good people of Oyo State have exhibited electoral sophistication never seen before in the history of elections in the state.”
IDU-USA opined that the massive votes Governor Makinde recorded were a reward from Oyo people for his giant strides in infrastructures, industrialisation and in other sectors of governance. The Union however sounded a warning to Oyo politicians to see Governor Makinde’s victory as a sign that it is no longer business as usual with the masses. It asserted that politicians must have sincerity of purpose towards the betterment of the people if they want to enjoy people’s acceptability in their political aspirations.
