The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Honourable Seun Fakorede has commended the efforts of His Excellency, Engineer Seyi Makinde, the Oyo State Governor for his commitment to sports development in Oyo State.
Fakorede, who led the contingents of athletes, technical officials and staffs during their hosting at the Governor’s office on Friday has appreciated Makinde for approving and releasing of funds for the “recently concluded 21st National Sports Festival held in Asaba, Delta State”.
Fakorede described Governor Makinde’s “magnanimous gesture has been yielding a positive result which led to scintillating performances of Oyo State athletes in both National and International competitions”.
Fakorede also explained the exploits experienced due to Makinde’s encouragement and support in the Para Sports Games in Abuja where “we exceedingly won 24 Gold, 15 silvers and 21 Bronze medals totalling 60 and occupying 2nd position.
Also, three Oyo State Athletes represented Nigeria and performed brilliantly with the three athletes winning Gold, Silver and Bronze each. At the Confederation of the Africa Cycling Track Championship, four Oyo State athletes won three medals and one bronze”.
In addition, at the 2022 National Sports Festival, we won the 4th position with 50 Gold, 51 Silver and 62 bronze medals, a position Oyo State occupied 43 years ago.
