The Oyo State Ministry of Youths and Sports has achieved another giant stride as it hosted the Chief Emeka Anyaoku Lecture Series on Imperative of good governance in Nigeria at the Initiative for Information and Culture Development (IACD) Centre, Jericho, Ibadan.
The lecture series which is aimed at mentoring youths on the dynamics of good governance was delivered by the renowned Political Scientist, Prof. Ayo Olukotun, in which the Erudite Professor did perfect justice to the theme of the lecture series themed “Imperative of Good Governance in Nigeria”.
Olutokun while citing scholars like Francis Fukuyama amongst others, he also used His Excellency, Engr. Seyi Makinde FNSE, the Oyo State Governor as an epitome of good governance.
The Commissioner, Seun Fakorede while delivering his Vote of Thanks expland that, the ministry hosted the lecture series because, it believes that, as a government, it must spend peoples’ resources on projects that will better the youths and the entire citizenry. It was important for the ministry to host the lecture series as part of their effort at rekindling public debate and reawakening reading culture amongst the teeming youth population.
“The Governor has also promised that, in adding value and focusing on the total wellbeing of the youths, more of programmes as this would be sustained” he said.
He further appreciated Chief Emeka Anyaoku, the former Secretary General of Commonwealth, who was described as “epitome of good governance, whose iconic feats we are celebrating today in the lecture series on the imperative of good governance in Nigeria”.
In attendance were; Deputy Governor, Bayo Lawal, Senator Monsura Sumonu, Wasiu Olatunbosun, Taiwo Adisa, Hon. Akinajo, Olojede Victor among others.
