The general congress of the Federation of Ibadan Students Union (FIBSU), National Council was invaded by hoodlums on Saturday, 11th September, 2021 at Mufutau Olanihun College of Education, Ibadan where all activities for the day were carried out under duress.
OYOMIND gathered that the executives of FIBSU led by Aare Olakekan Yusuf Ajibola (Lexiphyll) in a bid to ensure that the baton of leadership is handed over to another set of executives within the stipulated period called for an emergency congress to set up an electoral committee.
To their dismay, some people with unknown intention had perfected plans to hijack the congress to suite them by invading the venue with hoodlums who came with weapons.
In a chat with a congressman who pleaded anonymity, he described the situation as ‘show of shame’ that brought tears out of his eyes.
According to him, “Students who are referred to as a youth, a symbol of hope to put an end to moral decadence and all in our society were caught disrupting a peaceful congress by a reasonable set of executives who are willing to hand over as an when due.
“We thought it was a joke at the beginning until when they began to enforce some decisions on the helpless congress members who are already under duress.
“The President and others complied so that people would not get hurt but the scariest part of it all was when they start to maltreat the president who had reached bus stop to board vehicle out of the venue.
“He was forced to go back to the congress venue where certain decisions were enforced on him and others” he concluded.
