Mr. Mutalubi Ojo, a former Commissioner for justice in Oyo State, has berated the tenure of the immediate past vice-chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Idowu Olayinka, as worse than that of former military president, Ibrahim Babangida.
In the series of Facebook comment on Thursday morning, Ojo, a UI alumnus, noted that the the former VC’s ‘shameful’ performance made him a failed administrator. He urged him Olayinka to put a stop to his showy attitude and apologize to the institution’s alumni. The comments read:

“Sir, truth be told, there is no justification or any excuse you may try to put up that can take away or rationalise the fact that by and large you are a failed Administrator as far as your tenure as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ibadan is concerned.

“I will liken your tenure of service to the reign of IBB which ended ingloriously not for any other thing but because of June 12.

“Yours is even worse because IBB didnt serve in ivory tower but you served as VC in the intellectual capital of Nigeria and you brought the premier University to disrepute because of your inordinate ambition to impose your protege on the institution at all cost.

“It is shameful and you owe all of us who are Alumni of that great citadel of knowledge an apology.

“Sir, enough of this Donald Trump type of grandstanding please, ” the former Attorney General wrote.

Meanwhile, in response to Ojo’s comments, the Olayinka accused the former commissioner of religious bigotry and also of being a ‘hireling’ of ‘a well-known godfather.’
His comment reads: “You and your sponsors, including all the syndicated religious bigots and your well-known godfather and traducer, cannot remove anything from my achievements. The stakeholders are in the best position to judge me, not hirelings like you. Why the unprovoked attack on me, if I may ask you. Best wishes to you.”

However, in a counter comment of Ojo, who seemed unready to back out said, “Idowu Olayinka My godfather, Senator Abiola Ajimobi died in June this year and I have no other godfather. Am not a religious bigot and if you care to know care to know my wife is devoted Christian.
Just stop your self pontification and glorification in an attempt to give yourself a damage control and soft landing over your inglorious and shameful exit from the office of Vice Chancellor of our premier University.”

The controversy seems to have stemmed from the allegation that the former VC tried to impose his deputy, Professor Kayode Adebowale as his successor which marred the selection process that led to the election of institution’s Vice-Chancellor(academics), Professor Ekanola as the acting Vice Chancellor for a period of six months, during which another selection process will be conducted.
