The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has commenced an investigation into allegations of financial mismanagement and abuse of office against the Chairman of Oluyole Local Government Area in Oyo State, Engr. Akeem Olatunji.
Sources confirmed that the chairman was invited to the Ibadan Zonal Office of the EFCC for preliminary questioning. His Chief of Staff, Mr. Azeez Babalola, was also invited in connection with the ongoing probe.
The investigation followed a petition submitted by a concerned indigene, alleging diversion of internally generated revenue (IGR), procurement breaches, questionable land transactions, and other financial irregularities between May 2024 and July 2025.
Some of the allegations reportedly being examined include claims of excessive security spending, disbursement of staff palliatives despite the payment of a 13th-month salary, and alleged unapproved expenditures on political and union-related activities. The petition also raised concerns over land transactions at Odo Ona Kekere and other parts of the council area.
The EFCC probe is understood to be drawing from multiple petitions earlier submitted to state authorities, including the Oyo State House of Assembly and the Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters.
In May 2025, councillors in Oluyole Local Government also accused the chairman of sidelining the legislative arm and expending council funds without due consultation. The lawmakers raised concerns over road grading contracts, adhoc employment exercises, land allocations, empowerment programmes, and the handling of festive funds.
Residents and stakeholders have urged the anti-graft agency to ensure a thorough and transparent investigation in the interest of accountability and good governance.
