On this auspicious day, June 12, I, Kehinde Ogunniyi, extend my heartfelt wishes to all of you as we celebrate Democracy Day. This day holds profound significance in our nation’s history as we honor the sacrifices made for the establishment and preservation of democratic governance in Nigeria.

Democracy is the bedrock of a just and progressive society. It empowers us to choose our leaders, voice our opinions, and actively participate in the shaping of our nation’s future. The principles of democracy—freedom, equality, and justice—are essential for the flourishing of any society and the protection of human dignity.

As we commemorate this important day, I urge all law enforcement agencies to continue upholding the rule of law with the utmost respect for human rights. It is imperative that in our pursuit of security and order, the rights and freedoms of every individual are safeguarded. The adherence to the rule of law is not just a legal obligation but a moral one, ensuring that justice prevails and trust in our institutions is maintained.

Celebrating democracy should also be a call to action for all Nigerians. It starts within our families, where we must be responsible and instill democratic values in our children. By teaching them the importance of responsibility, integrity, and participation, we lay the foundation for a robust democratic society. Additionally, we must hold our leaders accountable and ensure they follow developmental patterns that benefit all citizens.

I also advocate and enjoin youths like myself to be actively involved in the democratic process. Our participation in politics, whether through voting, engaging in civic discussions, or even running for office, is crucial for the development of our nation. Young people bring fresh perspectives, energy, and innovative solutions to the table, and it is through our active involvement that we can drive meaningful change and progress.

May we all continue to strive towards a more democratic, inclusive, and prosperous Nigeria.

Happy Democracy Day and God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria!
