Winners of the 2022 OOF sports fiesta have received their cash prizes amidst cacophonic joy on Thursday and Friday having emerged and pronounced winners of 2022 edition of Olusegun Okanlawon Foundation’s annual sports competitions that was held in December.
It has become a custom of the non-governmental organization OOF and what is known to the winners of its competitions that every January 23rd is scheduled for the payment of cash prize since 2019 the organization had first edition of the biggest sports competition in Ibarapa, but technical fault delayed that of this year till January 26th.
Not only winners of the competitions were paid, the foundation also disbursed funds for the academic use of the scholarship beneficiaries of the founder, Engr. David Olusegun Okanlawon who is also the Accord Party candidate for House of Representatives in Ibarapa Central and North Federal constituency.
Engr. David Olusegun Okanlawon, upon his active involvement in mainstream politics and holding ticket to contest for House of Representatives under Accord Party, has over times distinguished his foundation from politics and that activities of his foundation are not targeted at his political favourites.
Despite the fact that the final match of the 4th edition of OOF Ibarapa Unity Cup between Idere Emirate FC and Lanlate United FC on December 24th was disrupted by irate fans, agreement was reached between the two teams concerned the following day and it was made known to the public through an official statement from the foundation on December 26th.
“In the spirit of unity and progress, they unanimously agreed that Idere Emirate FC should be awarded gold medal, while they receive prize of the second position (NGN200,000). However, Lanlate United FC would be awarded silver medal while they receive prize of the first position (NGN250,000).” December 26th OOF statement partly reads.
Football competition cash prizes that were disbursed to the representatives of each participating team go as thus; Idere Emirate FC (NGN200,000), Lanlate United FC (NGN250,000), Igangan National FC (NGN150,000), Okanlawon FC (NGN50,000) as the first, second, third and fourth position respectively.
Other four participating teams which include Tapa Slavenger FC, Ayete National FC, Igboora Superbabes and Eruwa FC got NGN20,000 each as a participation prize and transport fare.
Cash prizes for other competitions were disbursed to the winners, parents and guidance of those who, for one reason or the other, could not provide the foundation with their personal account details and it all go as thus:
Marathon race of the male category: Olatunji Segun (NGN100,000), Adelakun Damilare (NGN70,000) and Muibudeen Sherif (NGN50,000), the first, second and third position respectively.
Marathon race of the female category: Okesola Fowomola (NGN100,000), Makinde Maisarat (NGN70,000) while third position prize was paired for the duo of Taiwo Wasilat (NGN30,000) and Adesina Bose (NGN20,000) who were guilty of taking ride during the race with no other female making it to the finishing line as at the monitored time.
Other competitions include male and female categories of Ayo Olopon and male category of Draught competition, while only one female was present for the Draught competition but was discharged and female category of Draught competition was overruled.
NGN50,000, NGN30,000 and NGN20,000 was paid to the first, second and third positions respectively in each category of male and female; Ayo Olopon and male category of the Draught competition.
Beneficiaries on the scholarship list of Olusegun Okanlawon Foundation also had their academic fees disbursed to their respective school accounts and school proprietors’ accounts.
The sum of NGN36,000 was paid to the account of Amazing Grace Model School Idere proprietor, Mr. Olukunle Adegbemi to cover Basic Education Certificate Education (B.E.C.E.) and 2nd term fees of Oladimeji Mubarak (Tansho) from Idere.
Proprietor of Maja Academy Igangan, Mathew Ajayi Awujoola also received NGN15,000 for the second term school fees of Faith Akindele at Igangan in Ibarapa North Local Government, Oyo State.
A talented young female drummer from Igboora, Mufidat Taoreed also had the sum of NGN55,000 paid into the account of Royal Star Group of Schools Igboora for school fees and necessary materials as itemized for the foundation in continuation of nursery education in the school.
Acknowledging efforts of the foundation in restoring hope, discovering talents and building capacities in Ibarapa, words of encomium continue to pour in from credited winners of the competitions, beneficiaries of the scholarship and lovers of development in Ibarapa.
