The Ekiti State Command of the Nigerian Police have linked the suspected political thugs arrested at Ita Awure/Efon Junction in the Efon Alaaye area of Ekiti State on Wednesday, with the Oyo State.

This was contained in the statement of the Ekiti State PPRO, Sunday Abutu. While briefing newsmen on Monday, 31st of January, 2022 Abutu disclosed that investigation has revealed that the suspects were deployed by “someone in Ibadan who is connected with the Oyo State.” He added that the 98 suspects who were initially arrested by the men of the 32 Artillery Brigade of the Nigerian Army, Akure, Ondo State, will be charged to court for unlawful possession of firearms, cutlass, knives, and other illegal items on Monday.

It should be recalled that OyoMind had earlier identified some of the suspects as members of the Oyo State PMS which include, Taofeek Rasheed a.k.a Eba, Fatai Ajagbe a.k.a Monjara, Suraju Adio a.k.a Ilupeju, Raji Akani a.k.a Sango, Kaseem Lamidi a.k.a Yaro, Mojeed a.k.a Gbolaga, Tope a.k.a Akala, Kaseem Omisande a.k.a Irumole, Kabiru a.k.a Particular, Rotimi a.k.a Obasanjo. The suspects were arrested on Wednesday, 27th of January, 2021 in an attempt to disrupt the primary election of the People’s Democratic Party.

Abutu, however, refused to disclose the identity of the said culprit. He claimed that the investigation is still ongoing and the identity will be unraveled as and when due.

Meanwhile, this development seems to have validated the branding of the Engr. Seyi Makinde-led Oyo State government as a government that gives fertile land for insecurity and hooliganism to fester in the state.

As of the time of filing this report, the Oyo State Government is yet to react to the incident.
