The Soludero Hunters Association, have raised eyebrow towards the Oyo State Government over the intended online recruitment into the Amotekun Corps through it’s portal.
The Chairman of the Association, Oba Nureni Ajijola-Anabi, explained on Sunday that the group had advised that the recruitment into the Amotekun Corps should be based on paper qualification.
The group vowed to withdraw from the corps if the state government pursued the online registration for interested applicants.
“We told them to focus more on the local people, who know the terrain, including the forests, but they told us to go and register online.
“What does online registration have to do with providing security for the people? If they insist on this, we will back out of the exercise.”
The Chairman stated that the move will shut local hunters out of the whole exercise and pleaded with Governor Seyi Makinde to instead, provide patrol vehicles and other logistics to make it easier for them to function more effectively.
“But, at times, some security men, for pecuniary gains, hinder our operations whenever we apprehend suspected bandits. At times, they prevent us from arresting them.
“We thank the new Commissioner of Police in Oyo, Mr Nwachukwu Enwonwu, for effective policing. He has been of tremendous help.”
