A Polo Team codenamed Team Anlamole by Jagun Olúbàdàn of Ibadanland, Oloye Abiola Iyiola, is set to participate in a 1-Day Polo Tournament organised by Ibadan Polo Club to honour the Executive Governor of Oyo State, Engineer Seyi Makinde in a tournament called Omituntun 2.0 Cup.
The Polo Tournament is slated for Saturday, 22nd July, 2023 at the Ibadan Polo Club Ground. As a Polo Enthusiast, Oloye Abiola Iyiola’s Team Anlamole is participating in the tournament, first, as a response to an invitation by Edozie Onwuli who is the Polo Captain of Ibadan Polo Club, and second, for unity, merging of diversity and promotion of friendship and mutual understanding and showcasing of different aspects of the sport of Polo. It is therefore for the purpose of community building that Team Anlamole has decided to lock horns in the tournament with other teams by eminent citizens of Oyo State which include Engineer Dọtun Sanusi of Team Ilaji; Ambassador Taofeek Arapaja of Team Arapaja; Mogaji Joseph Tegbe of Team Tegbe and Mogaji Olajuwon Subair of Team Ile Nla.
The tournament will attract Polo players from Ibadan and other players invited from across the country as the players expected at the tournament are: Ahmed Umar from Calabar; Glory Obana and Jibrin Ali from Lagos; Saidu Umar, Salisu Umoru, Bola Adéyemí, Carl Alakija and Edozie Onwuli of Abuja, and a host of others.
We also have the likes of Baba Ige who plays in England, Sherif Kasali from Lagos, Kunmi Edet from Lagos, Prince Kunmi Ajibade and Mogaji Olajuwon Subair who will join a list of others to play in the low goal cup.
“In total, five teams, twenty players and about eighty well-trained horses, will be on the field in honour of His Excellency, our traditional institutions and by extension Oyo State and the people within.
