2027: Buhari Engages Oyo South Former Councillors, Seeks Support for Party Unity, Tinubu’s Re-election, His Guber Ambition

Chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and Senator representing Oyo North Senatorial District, Senator Fatai Buhari, has reaffirmed his commitment to the ideals of the late former Governor of Oyo State, Senator Abiola Ajimobi, during a meeting with former councillors from Oyo South Senatorial District who served in 2018.

The interactive session, held as part of ongoing engagements and consultations, was aimed at seeking support for Buhari’s gubernatorial ambition ahead of the 2027 general elections.

According to the former local government lawmakers of Oyo South, the meeting was viewed as a strategic move to strengthen internal unity and consolidate the progressive structure of the APC across the state.

In a joint press statement released by the five-man committee representing the Oyo South former councillors — Hon. Ayodele Adewuyi (Ibadan North), Hon. Lawal Kafayat (Ibadan North East/South East), Hon. Obagunle Olutokun (Ibarapa East/Ido), Hon. Taofeek Omogbolahan (Ibadan North West/South West), and Hon. Oyewole Waliu (Ibarapa Central/North); Senator Buhari clarified that the gathering was not a campaign event, but rather a family meeting of the Ajimobi Legacy Group, designed to foster collaboration and synergy among progressives within the party. And also to seek support for party unity and the re-election of President Bola Tinubu in 2027.

While addressing the former councillors, Senator Buhari extolled the virtues of the former First Lady of Oyo State, Her Excellency, Dr. (Mrs.) Florence Ajimobi, for her unwavering commitment to preserving and advancing the political and developmental legacy of her late husband.

He described her as “a symbol of resilience and continuity within the progressive family,” adding that her leadership and support have been pivotal in sustaining the ideals of good governance, discipline, and integrity across the state.

Buhari also reassured the attendees of his determination to continue delivering impactful representation to his senatorial district and to Oyo State at large. He emphasized that the initiative was part of his broader effort to empower party loyalists, strengthen grassroots participation, and ensure that the APC remains strong and connected to the people.

In their collective response, the 2018 former councillors commended Senator Buhari for recognizing their contributions and for his inclusive approach. They urged him to continue prioritizing unity and cooperation within the APC, pledging to support whichever aspirant emerges as the party’s gubernatorial candidate in 2027.

The group further reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and expressed readiness to work tirelessly toward ensuring a resounding victory for the party in the next general elections. They also extended goodwill messages to the progressive family across Oyo State and Nigeria, calling for renewed dedication to shared goals.

Prominent personalities at the meeting included Hon. Adetoyese Ishola (Ibadan North East), former Oyo Commissioner for Works, Hon. Wasiu Dauda Oladimeji Asusu, and Barr. Waheed Lawal (Saki West Local Government).
